Science fiction authors have made accurate predictions about events and technologies that few had even conceived of at the time. However, sci-fi authors don’t just make predictions; their descriptions inspire new scientific and social innovations.

At Boldly Go!, we strive to embrace this tradition by exploring ideas presented in science fiction literature. We hope to inspire readers, as well as inform. Without insight into progress and acknowledgment of potential pitfalls, it is unlikely that society will proceed in a beneficial direction.

The future is a broad subject. Contents are organized into the following sections:

Science: Topics involving scientific developments now and in the future, with an emphasis on biology. Subtopics include physics, astronomy, mathematics, and psychology.

Technology: No discussion of the future or science-fiction would be complete without gadgets and alien technology.

Society: Good science-fiction captures cultural and political developments. Subtopics include culture, art, religion, and economics.

Philosophy: Speculative fiction is a wonderful environment for philosophical thought experiments. We hope to highlight a few of these as they apply to ethics and epistemology.

Quotations: Material from others we found interesting or inspiring.
